16 FAMILY FRIENDLY FILMS TO INSPIRE ADVENTURE AND TRAVEL

A great quote we recently saw was that not every classroom has four walls. It was referring to the fact that travel can be a great educator to our children.


With that in mind, we thought about how we can inspire our children to want to experience the world and what better way than by introducing it to them through movies. And, the timing couldn’t be better as we spend more time indoors, waiting for spring to arrive.


Here are our top choices of the best travel and adventure movies that the whole family will go crazy for.


Finding Nemo - After his son is captured in the Great Barrier Reef and taken to Sydney, a timid clownfish sets out on a journey to bring him home.


Coco – Set in Mexico, aspiring musician Miguel, confronted with his family's ancestral ban on music, enters the Land of the Dead to find his great-great-grandfather, a legendary singer.


Brave - Determined to make her own path in life, Princess Merida defies a custom that brings chaos to her kingdom (inspired by Scotland). Granted one wish, Merida must rely on her bravery and her archery skills to undo a beastly curse.


The Sound of Music - A woman leaves an Austrian convent to become a governess to the children of a Naval officer widower.

Rio - When Blu, a domesticated macaw from small-town Minnesota, meets the fiercely independent Jewel, he takes off on an adventure to Rio de Janeiro with the bird of his dreams.


Moana - In Ancient Polynesia, when a terrible curse incurred by the Demigod Maui reaches Moana's island, she answers the Ocean's call to seek out the Demigod to set things right.


Ratatouille - A rat who can cook makes an unusual alliance with a young kitchen worker at a famous restaurant. The film is set in Paris.



Up! - 78-year-old Carl Fredricksen travels to Paradise Falls (which is said to have been inspired by Venezuela’s beauty) in his house equipped with balloons, inadvertently taking a young stowaway.


Lilo & Stitch - A Hawaiian girl adopts an unusual pet which is a notorious extra-terrestrial fugitive.


Kung Fu Panda - The Dragon Warrior has to clash against the savage Tai Lung as China's fate hangs in the balance. However, the Dragon Warrior mantle is supposedly mistaken to be bestowed upon an obese panda who is a novice in martial arts.



Dora and the Lost City of Gold - Dora, a teenage explorer, leads her friends on an adventure to save her parents and solve the mystery behind a lost city of gold.


Mulan - To save her father from death in the army, a young maiden, secretly goes in his place and becomes one of China's greatest heroines in the process.

Frozen - When the newly crowned Queen Elsa accidentally uses her power to turn things into ice to curse her home in infinite winter, her sister Anna teams up with a mountain man, his playful reindeer, and a snowman to change the weather condition. Based on the country Norway.


Madagascar - A group of animals who have spent all their life in a New York zoo end up in the jungles of Madagascar, and must adjust to living in the wild.


Mary Poppins Returns - A few decades after her original visit, Mary Poppins, the magical nanny, returns to help the Banks siblings and Michael's children through a difficult time in their lives.


Mama Mia - The story of a bride-to-be trying to find her real father told using hit songs by the popular 1970s group ABBA and filmed on location on the small Greek island of Skopelos.
